Joe Mabbott is one of the busiest men in the business. Between his work with Rhymesayers Entertainment and The Hideaway Studio, we at Radio Noir are pretty impressed we caught the prolific engineer for a 30 minute interview.
Mabbott was fresh off the completion of the new Brother Ali record, Us, which came out in September. He discussed a wide range of topics: Turning samples into live performances on Ali's and several Atmosphere records, the current state of the music industry, the role of the recording studio in current industry, and even a few anecdotes about working with Snoop Dogg.
Mabbott is also working with Doomtree beatmaking genius Lazerbeak. His album should be out in 2010. As will a slew of other projects Mabbott worked his magic on, so keep an ear out.
